Europe’s job board for field service engineers

Moving from installer to commissioning engineer

Commissioning engineers bring an installation to life: they set parameters, test every function and hand the system over to the customer. It is a natural next step for experienced installers.

Skills to build

  • Reading electrical and P&ID drawings without help
  • PLC and HMI basics, including going online and reading the program
  • Writing test reports and handover documents
  • Talking to the customer about problems and timelines

How to make the move

Ask your current employer to let you assist on a commissioning job, take the vendor’s commissioning course, and add every system you have helped commission to your CV.
