Europe’s job board for field service engineers

Working abroad as a service engineer

Working on sites across Europe is part of many field service jobs. A few rules decide where you pay tax and social security.

The A1 certificate

When you are posted to another EU country for a limited time, your employer requests an A1 certificate. It shows you stay insured in your home country, and site managers may ask to see it.

Tax

Short trips are usually taxed at home, but long stays in one country can change that. Ask your employer or a tax adviser if a project runs longer than a few months.

Contract

Check which country’s law applies to your contract and how travel days and waiting time are paid.

This is general information, not tax advice. Check your own situation with your employer or an adviser.
